This versatile apple filling is perfect for spreading on toast or topping crackers for delightful canapés. It’s a spoonful of sweetness that makes any treat extra special! I made a generous batch for our upcoming Christmas home party. You can easily make this at home too!
Ingredients- 4 medium apples
- 400g granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 100g brown sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and peel the 4 fresh apples. Then, remove the core and dice them into very small, uniform pieces. If you prefer a bit more texture, you can chop them slightly larger.
Step 2
Place the diced apples into a saucepan. Evenly sprinkle the 400g of granulated sugar over the apples. (Tip: Using about 100g-120g of sugar per apple provides a good level of sweetness, but feel free to adjust to your taste.)
Step 3
Begin cooking over medium-low heat. Let it sit initially until the sugar starts to dissolve. Once the sugar becomes clear and is melting, gently stir with a spatula or spoon to prevent sticking to the bottom. The apples will release their juices and begin to break down.
Step 4
As the apples soften and release more liquid, add 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon. The warm cinnamon aroma will blend beautifully with the apples, adding a rich depth of flavor.
Step 5
Finally, stir in the 100g of brown sugar. Brown sugar will contribute a subtle caramel note and a lovely color, making the filling even more appealing. Continue stirring until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
Step 6
Once the filling reaches your desired consistency, turn off the heat. The apple filling will thicken considerably as it cools, so be mindful not to overcook it. Transfer the warm apple filling to sterilized glass jars. Let it cool completely before refrigerating. Enjoy this delicious filling on toast, bread, yogurt, pancakes, and more!
