Begin by thoroughly washing the sweet potato. Since we’ll be eating the skin, ensure all dirt and dust are removed meticulously.

Now, let’s create the beautiful accordion cuts. Place the sweet potato on a cutting board. Lay two wooden chopsticks parallel on either side of the sweet potato. The chopsticks will act as a stopper, preventing the knife from cutting all the way through.

With the chopsticks in place, carefully slice the sweet potato at about 0.5cm intervals. The knife should stop when it hits the chopsticks, ensuring the sweet potato remains intact and isn’t cut into separate pieces.

Your accordion cuts are now complete! These thin, evenly spaced slits will allow the flavors to penetrate deeply and make the sweet potato incredibly tender and delicious when cooked.

Place the small cube of butter on top of the cut sweet potato. As the butter melts, it will mingle with the natural sweetness of the potato, creating an absolutely divine flavor. (Apologies for the missing photo, but don’t forget to add the butter!)

Wrap the sweet potato in parchment paper or place it on a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at approximately 180°C (350°F) for 20-30 minutes. The sweet potato is done when a chopstick or skewer can be easily inserted into the thickest part.
