Here’s a delightful chocolate cake recipe, reminiscent of cozy Christmas gatherings. This cocoa-rich cake, studded with chocolate chips, is incredibly easy to make using your air fryer. It offers a balanced sweetness, making it perfect for any occasion. Enjoy the rich chocolate flavor and tender crumb!
Cake Batter Ingredients- 80g unsalted butter, softened
- 140g cake flour
- 20g cocoa powder
- 50g granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 65g milk
- 5g baking powder
- 20g chocolate chips
- 15g chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts, almonds)
- 5g chocolate chips for decoration
- A pinch of powdered sugar for dusting
- A little butter for greasing the cake pan
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by creaming the butter. In a mixing bowl, combine 80g of softened unsalted butter. Use a whisk or a hand mixer to beat it until it’s smooth and fluffy. Set aside a small amount of butter for greasing your cake pan.
Step 2
Add 50g of granulated sugar to the creamed butter. Continue to mix thoroughly until the mixture is well combined and slightly lighter in color, indicating a good blend of butter and sugar. This step contributes to the cake’s tender texture.
Step 3
Crack 2 large eggs into the mixture, one at a time. Whisk vigorously after each addition to ensure the egg is fully incorporated and emulsified with the butter and sugar mixture. This prevents the batter from separating.
Step 4
In a separate bowl, measure out 140g of cake flour, 20g of cocoa powder, and 5g of baking powder. Whisk these dry ingredients together to ensure they are evenly distributed.
Step 5
Sift the combined dry ingredients (flour, cocoa powder, baking powder) through a fine-mesh sieve at least 2-3 times. Sifting helps to aerate the flour and prevent any lumps, leading to a lighter cake crumb.
Step 6
Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients to the butter-egg mixture. Using a spatula, gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in a tough cake.
Step 7
Pour in 65g of milk (at room temperature, not cold) into the batter. Using your spatula, gently cut and fold the mixture until the milk is incorporated and the batter is smooth. Again, avoid overmixing.
Step 8
Now, fold in 20g of chocolate chips and 15g of chopped nuts. Mix them evenly throughout the batter. If you’re not a fan of nuts, feel free to omit them or substitute with your preferred type.
Step 9
Your smooth, rich chocolate cake batter is now ready! Ensure there are no streaks of dry ingredients visible and that everything is well combined.
Step 10
Transfer the batter into a piping bag for easy filling. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can simply use a spoon or spatula to carefully spoon the batter into your prepared cake pan.
Step 11
Grease your cake pan thoroughly with the reserved butter. If using a Bundt or Gugelhupf pan, it’s best to place the decorative chocolate chips (5g) at the bottom of the pan before adding the batter, as this part will become the top of the cake. For a standard round pan, you can sprinkle the chips on top of the batter after piping or add them after baking.
Step 12
Fill the prepared cake pan with the batter. Gently tap the pan on your work surface a few times to release any large air bubbles and to ensure the batter is evenly distributed and level.
Step 13
Preheat your air fryer to 160°C (320°F). Place the cake pan inside and bake for 40 minutes. To check for doneness, insert a cake tester or a toothpick into the center of the cake. If it comes out clean with no wet batter attached, the cake is ready. If it still has batter, bake for an additional 5 minutes.
Step 14
Once baked, carefully remove the cake from the air fryer and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely. Finally, dust the top with a sprinkle of powdered sugar using a fine sieve for a beautiful presentation. Your delicious homemade chocolate cake is ready to enjoy!
