Main Ingredients- 1 handful Tteokguk Tteok (rice cake soup slices, approx. 150g)
- A little frozen sundae (blood sausage, to taste)
- 1/2 packet ramen noodles
Sauce Ingredients- 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 0.5 Tbsp curry powder
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey)
- 1 tsp black pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 0.5 Tbsp curry powder
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey)
- 1 tsp black pepper (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the Tteokguk tteok (rice cakes for soup) in cold water to soften them. If your rice cakes are very hard, you can briefly blanch them in boiling water. Pour 2.5 cups (approx. 500ml) of water into a pot and add the softened rice cakes.
Step 2
Once the water starts boiling, add 2 tablespoons of Gochujang (Korean chili paste) to form the base of your spicy sauce. Stir well to ensure the paste dissolves completely. The broth will begin to thicken.
Step 3
Now, add the remaining sauce ingredients. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar, 0.5 tablespoon of curry powder, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 tablespoon of corn syrup, and 1.5 tablespoons of Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes). Adding curry powder introduces a unique savory depth and aromatic flavor, making the dish even more delicious.
Step 4
As the sauce comes to a boil, add half a packet of ramen noodles. The noodles will absorb the sauce as they cook and swell. If you prefer your noodles slightly firmer, you can add them a minute earlier.
Step 5
For an extra kick of heat, finely chop 1 Cheongyang chili pepper and add it to the pot. You can adjust the amount of chili pepper or omit it entirely based on your spice preference. The fiery heat is truly delightful!
Step 6
Add a generous amount of chopped green onions. The natural sweetness of the green onions helps to balance the spiciness and enhances the overall flavor profile.
Step 7
If you have some frozen sundae (Korean blood sausage) in your freezer, add a suitable portion to the pot. The combination of sundae, rice cakes, and ramen noodles creates a hearty and satisfying meal.
Step 8
Once all the ingredients are cooked through and the sauce has thickened to your liking, finish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Voila! Your custom Rabokki, made from fridge leftovers, is ready to be enjoyed. Dig in and savor every bite!
