Spicy & Sweet Bibim Ramen Recipe

Tired of eating ramen the usual way? This recipe transforms a simple packet of ramen into a delicious and satisfying bibim ramen (spicy mixed noodles)! Perfect for when you crave something flavorful or have a dull appetite. You can achieve a taste similar to bibim guksu or jjolmyeon using basic pantry ingredients and fresh vegetables. Here’s a special bibim ramen recipe featuring the distinct flavor of Samyang Ramen.

Recipe Info

  • Category : Noodles & Dumplings
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Mixed (Bibim-style)
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 10 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1 packet of ramen (use your favorite, like Samyang Ramen, based on preference)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 lettuce leaves
  • 3 perilla leaves

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the boiled egg. If you only need to boil one egg, fill a small pot with just enough water to cover the egg. Simmer over medium heat for about 10-12 minutes for a hard-boiled egg. (Tip: Adding a little vinegar to the boiling water helps the shell peel more easily, and salt can prevent the egg from cracking.)

Step 1

Step 2

Now, it’s time to cook the ramen noodles. Bring water to a boil and add only the noodle block. If you have bean sprouts at home, adding them along with the noodles will provide a delightful crunchy texture. (Tip: I used Samyang Ramen, but any ramen brand will work wonderfully! Choose your favorite.)

Step 2

Step 3

To prevent the noodles from becoming mushy, it’s best to make the sauce while the noodles are cooking, or prepare it beforehand. Start by measuring and combining 1 Tbsp of sugar, 0.5 Tbsp of gochugaru, and 0.5 Tbsp of the ramen powder soup base.

Step 3

Step 4

Add 0.5 Tbsp of gochujang and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil to the mix. Stir all the sauce ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Your delicious bibim sauce is now ready! Isn’t it easy?

Step 4

Step 5

Once the noodles are cooked, drain them in a colander. Rinse the noodles thoroughly under cold running water. This step is crucial for achieving a firm and chewy texture. After rinsing, shake off any excess water completely.

Step 5

Step 6

Place the drained noodles into a bowl and pour all the prepared bibim sauce over them. Use chopsticks to vigorously mix the sauce into the noodles, ensuring every strand is coated. (Tip: If the sauce seems too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of the noodle cooking water to help with mixing.)

Step 6

Step 7

Wash and chop the lettuce leaves and perilla leaves into bite-sized pieces (about 1-2 cm wide). These will be mixed directly into the ramen. For garnish, finely chop a few extra leaves.

Step 7

Step 8

Transfer the sauced noodles to your serving bowl. Add the chopped lettuce and perilla leaves that are meant to be mixed in. Finally, artfully arrange the finely chopped garnish leaves on top, centering them.

Step 8

Step 9

Place the halved boiled egg in the center of the bowl, and generously sprinkle with sesame seeds. Your mouth-watering bibim ramen is now complete!

Step 9

Step 10

This bibim ramen makes for a hearty and delicious meal. If you prefer a tangier flavor or a chewier texture similar to jjolmyeon, consider adding 0.5 to 1 Tbsp of vinegar to the sauce. Enjoy the enhanced flavor!
