Main Ingredients

  • 2 fresh oranges

Sweetener

  • 1 Tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Wash the 2 oranges thoroughly and cut them in half. Then, using a spoon or a melon baller, carefully scoop out the orange flesh and set it aside in a bowl or container. Don’t discard the hollowed-out orange peels; they’ll be used as charming serving vessels for your sherbet!

Step 2

Place the scooped-out orange pulp into a blender. Add a tiny amount of water (about 1-2 tablespoons) to help it blend. Be careful not to add too much water, as it can make the sherbet too thin. Blend until smooth, then strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to get pure, smooth orange juice. Straining ensures a wonderfully smooth sherbet texture.

Step 3

Pour the strained orange juice into a saucepan and add 1 tablespoon of sugar. (Feel free to adjust the sugar amount based on your preference for sweetness.) Gently heat over low heat, stirring with a spatula, just until the sugar is completely dissolved. Avoid overcooking, as it can diminish the fresh orange flavor.

Step 4

Pour the slightly warmed orange juice into the hollowed-out orange peels or a suitable container. Place it in the freezer for about 2 hours, or until it starts to freeze. After 2 hours, take it out and use a fork to scrape and break up the ice crystals, creating a fluffy, slushy texture. Repeat this scraping process every 2 hours, for a total of 2-3 times. Each scraping will enhance the characteristic light and fluffy texture of sherbet. Once it reaches your desired consistency, serve it back in the orange peel bowls and enjoy! Your delicious homemade orange sherbet is ready!
