Main Ingredients- 6 Pork dumplings
- 1/2 Onion
- 1/5 Carrot
- 2 Dried shiitake mushrooms
- 1/5 Zucchini
Seasoning & Other Ingredients- 1/2 cup Tomato sauce (approx. 120ml)
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of coarsely ground black pepper
- 2/3 cup Mozzarella cheese (approx. 50g)
- 1/2 cup Tomato sauce (approx. 120ml)
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of coarsely ground black pepper
- 2/3 cup Mozzarella cheese (approx. 50g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the pork dumplings. Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat without any oil. Place the dumplings in the pan, cover with a lid, and steam-fry them. This method allows the dumpling wrappers to cook without burning and ensures the filling becomes moist and tender, all without added oil.
Step 2
Gently shake the pan occasionally to prevent the dumplings from sticking to the bottom. Covering the pan helps distribute heat evenly, ensuring the dumplings cook through thoroughly.
Step 3
Cooking them this way without oil preserves the dumplings’ natural savory flavor. The wrappers will turn a beautiful golden brown, while the inside remains soft and delicious, making them perfect for gratin. Notice how the thin wrapper neatly encases the flavorful pork filling.
Step 4
Now, let’s prepare the vegetables. Thinly slice the onion. Add a little oil to a pan and sauté the onions over low heat until they become translucent and release a sweet aroma. Slowly cooking the onions will bring out their natural sweetness.
Step 5
Once the onions are well-sautéed, add the finely chopped carrot and stir-fry them together. Carrots take a bit longer to cook, so add them after the onions.
Step 6
Add the rehydrated dried shiitake mushrooms and the diced zucchini to the pan. Continue to stir-fry until all the vegetables are tender. Season lightly with salt and add coarsely ground black pepper for an extra layer of flavor. The gentle sweetness of the vegetables will combine to create a delicious sauce base.
Step 7
Pour the store-bought tomato sauce into the pan with the sautéed vegetables. Stir well to combine everything and let it simmer for about 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. The tangy sweetness of the tomato sauce enhances the overall taste.
Step 8
Spoon the prepared tomato sauce and vegetable mixture generously into an oven-safe or microwave-safe dish. Arrange the pan-fried dumplings on top of the sauce. Finally, cover everything generously with mozzarella cheese. Microwave for about 3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, or bake in a preheated oven for 10 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy your delicious, cheesy Mandu Gratin!
