Your Ultimate Homemade Beer Snack: Easy Vienna Sausage and Vegetable Stir-fry Recipe
I picked up a pack of Vienna sausages at the supermarket the other day. For those of similar age to me, I bet this brings back childhood memories! Today, I’m sharing a recipe for Vienna sausage and vegetable stir-fry, perfect as a beer snack at home, but also a great side dish for the whole family. The recipe is incredibly easy to follow, so why not make it your dinner menu tonight!
Main Ingredients- 500g Vienna sausages
- 1/2 onion
- 1/2 bell pepper (use a variety of colors for visual appeal)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Make small scores on the Vienna sausages to enhance their texture when cooked. You can make 2-3 diagonal cuts on the surface, or a cross shape at one end. This helps them puff up nicely and absorb the sauce better.
Step 2
To remove any additives and a slight casing smell, briefly blanch the sausages in boiling water for about 30 seconds. Immediately rinse them under cold water and drain thoroughly on a sieve. Draining well prevents oil splattering when stir-frying.
Step 3
Don’t forget to use up those leftover vegetables in your fridge! This recipe uses colorful bell peppers and onion. Chop them into bite-sized pieces, roughly similar in size to the sausages, for a pleasant texture contrast.
Step 4
Let’s whip up a fantastic sauce! In a bowl, combine 4 Tbsp ketchup, 2 Tbsp vinegar, 2 Tbsp sugar, and 2 Tbsp water. Whisk everything together until the sugar is completely dissolved. (Measurements are based on a standard Korean rice spoon.)
Step 5
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add 1 Tbsp minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Once the garlic is aromatic, add the drained Vienna sausages and sauté until lightly browned. They’ll become even tastier as they cook.
Step 6
Add the chopped onion and bell peppers to the pan and stir-fry until they begin to soften slightly. Pour in the prepared special sauce.
Step 7
Now, let the sauce simmer and meld with the ingredients for about 2 minutes over medium heat. The vegetables will release their juices, creating a delicious, well-balanced sauce. Be careful not to overcook, or the vegetables might become mushy.
Step 8
Finally, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of corn syrup for a beautiful sheen, and sprinkle 1 Tbsp of sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your delicious Vienna sausage and vegetable stir-fry is ready to enjoy! Serve immediately while warm.
