- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (key ingredient for flavor)
- 4 Tbsp vinegar (appetizing acidity)
- 2 Tbsp sugar (for sweetness adjustment)
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds (enhances nuttiness and flavor)
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (for color and spice adjustment)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gather all the ingredients for your Jjolmyeon and prepare them. Fresh vegetables, chewy noodles, and a delicious sauce – the start of any good dish is careful preparation!
Step 2
In a wide pot, bring plenty of water to a rolling boil. Sufficient water is essential for cooking the Jjolmyeon noodles perfectly.
Step 3
While the water is boiling, wash the bean sprouts thoroughly. Add the bean sprouts to the boiling water and blanch them very briefly, for about 30 seconds only. Be careful not to overcook them, as they will lose their crispness.
Step 4
After removing the blanched bean sprouts, add the Jjolmyeon noodles to the boiling water. The noodles might be clumped together, so gently loosen them with chopsticks from the edges to easily separate them. Boil for approximately 4-5 minutes. You can adjust the boiling time based on your preferred noodle texture.
Step 5
While the Jjolmyeon is boiling, thinly julienne the cucumber, carrot, cabbage, perilla leaves, and lettuce you’ve prepared. It’s best to cut the perilla and lettuce into bite-sized pieces rather than too thinly.
Step 6
Once the Jjolmyeon noodles are cooked, immediately drain them and rinse under cold running water. Rinsing with cold water firms up the chewy texture of the noodles and removes excess starch, resulting in a more springy noodle. Drain them in a colander and let the excess water drip off for a moment.
Step 7
Now it’s time to make the delicious sauce. In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp Gochujang, 4 Tbsp vinegar, and 2 Tbsp sugar, and mix well. The sauce might seem a bit thin at first. At this point, add 1 Tbsp Gochugaru to achieve a desirable consistency, which also adds a more appetizing color and spiciness. Finally, stir in 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma and complete the sauce.
Step 8
Place the drained Jjolmyeon noodles into your serving bowl. Arrange the prepared vegetable toppings and the hard-boiled egg attractively on top. Add a desired amount of the prepared sauce over the Jjolmyeon and mix well. You can enjoy delicious Jjolmyeon at home that rivals restaurant quality! Enjoy your meal!
