Main Ingredients- 1 squid (medium size)
- 1/2 onion (medium size)
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
Seasoning Ingredients- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp tuna extract (or fish sauce)
- 1 Tbsp mirin (or cooking wine)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup)
- Pinch of black pepper
- Drizzle of sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp tuna extract (or fish sauce)
- 1 Tbsp mirin (or cooking wine)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (or syrup)
- Pinch of black pepper
- Drizzle of sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, it’s important to properly prepare the fresh squid. Without skinning, cut open the belly lengthwise, remove all the insides, and then rinse thoroughly under running water. Once drained, slice the squid into bite-sized strips (about 0.5 cm thick). Slice the onion into thin strips as well, similar in thickness to the squid.
Step 2
Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the pan is sufficiently hot, add the sliced onions first and stir-fry until their sweetness begins to release. As the onions turn translucent, add the prepared squid and stir-fry together.
Step 3
Once the squid turns white and starts to cook, add all the prepared seasoning ingredients and stir-fry quickly. Add the soy sauce, gochugaru, tuna extract, mirin, plum extract, and black pepper. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, ensuring the sauce coats the squid and onions evenly. Be careful not to overcook the squid, as it can become tough.
Step 4
Finally, just before turning off the heat, drizzle a bit of sesame oil for a nutty aroma. Give it a quick stir to combine, and your delicious stir-fried squid with onion is ready.
Step 5
Serve this dish over warm rice, or plate it attractively to enjoy with a cold beer. The crunchy texture and the sweet and spicy sauce will whet your appetite for a wonderful meal.
