- 1 tsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Toasted sesame seeds
- 1/2 tsp Vinegar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Today, we’re going to make a Jjolmyeon that tastes just like it’s from a restaurant, but it’s super simple to prepare at home! The chewy noodles, the perfectly balanced spicy-sweet sauce, and the crisp fresh vegetables create a delightful culinary experience.
Step 2
First, get your Jjolmyeon noodles ready for two servings. Also, prepare the vegetables that will accompany your Jjolmyeon. Wash the cabbage, carrot, and lettuce thoroughly. Thinly julienne the cabbage and carrot. Cut the lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
Step 3
Next, boil two eggs until hard-boiled. Place the eggs in a pot, cover with water, and boil until fully cooked. Immediately transfer them to cold water to cool, then peel them. These boiled eggs will be a beautiful and tasty garnish for your Jjolmyeon.
Step 4
Pre-packaged Jjolmyeon noodles often stick together. Before boiling, gently rub the noodles between your hands to separate them. This step ensures the noodles cook evenly and prevents clumping.
Step 5
Now it’s time to cook the Jjolmyeon noodles. Bring a generous pot of water to a rolling boil. Add the separated noodles and cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until they reach a chewy texture. Drain the noodles immediately and rinse them thoroughly under cold running water to firm them up and maintain their chewiness. Once well-drained, place the noodles in a bowl. Add 2 tsp gochujang, 1 tsp gochugaru, 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp vinegar, and 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds. Gently mix and massage the ingredients into the noodles with your hands (using gloves is recommended!) until everything is well combined and evenly coated.
Step 6
Finally, transfer the seasoned Jjolmyeon to a serving bowl. Arrange the julienned carrots, cabbage, lettuce, and the halved or quartered hard-boiled eggs attractively on top as a garnish. And there you have it – a delicious Jjolmyeon with a perfect spicy, tangy, and sweet flavor! For an extra touch, feel free to add shredded cucumber or kimchi.
