How to Make Homemade All-Purpose Tsuyu Sauce
I’ve made a delicious tsuyu sauce that’s perfect for various dishes. It’s incredibly versatile and will elevate the flavor of your cooking. Enjoy this easy recipe!
Ingredients- 3 Tbsp Sugar
- 3 Tbsp Sake or Mirin
- 12 Tbsp Soy Sauce (Korean Jin-ganjang type preferred)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The golden ratio for tsuyu sauce is Sugar : Sake/Mirin : Soy Sauce = 1 : 1 : 4. Keep this ratio in mind, and you can easily adjust it for different batch sizes.
Step 2
Today, I’m making a generous batch, three times the base ratio. Measure out 3 tablespoons of sugar, 3 tablespoons of sake or mirin, and 12 tablespoons of soy sauce.
Step 3
Combine all the prepared ingredients in a small pot and heat over low heat. Once it starts to simmer, stir continuously with a spatula to ensure the sugar at the bottom doesn’t burn and mixes evenly.
Step 4
As soon as you see bubbles rising (simmering), turn off the heat immediately. Be careful not to overcook, as it can develop a bitter taste. Let the sauce cool down completely after turning off the heat.
Step 5
And there you have it! A rich and deeply flavorful all-purpose tsuyu sauce is ready. Doesn’t it look delicious?
Step 6
Use this finished tsuyu sauce as a base for noodle broths like for Soba or Zaru Udon, or as a versatile seasoning for braised dishes, stir-fries, and salads. It will truly transform your cooking!
