This is a quick and easy stir-fried napa cabbage kimchi rice dish, perfect for a busy morning! Whip it up in no time for a satisfying one-bowl meal.
Main Ingredients- 1 serving of well-fermented napa cabbage kimchi (including juice)
- 1 serving of cooked rice
- Pinch of black pepper
- A little oligodang (sweet rice syrup) or sugar (optional)
- 1 egg (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, chop the napa cabbage kimchi into bite-sized pieces. Cutting them into smaller pieces helps the flavors penetrate better and makes them easier to eat. Place the chopped kimchi in a pan, and add about 2 tablespoons of kimchi juice along with it. This kimchi juice will enhance the umami and keep the kimchi moist while stir-frying. Sprinkle a pinch of black pepper. If you’d like a touch of sweetness, add a tiny amount of oligodang (or sugar). Drizzle a little cooking oil into the pan and stir-fry the kimchi over medium heat until it softens. Stir constantly to prevent burning.
Step 2
Once the kimchi is softened, add 1 serving of cooked rice to the pan. Use a spatula to break up any clumps of rice and stir-fry everything together. Add about 1/2 teaspoon of oyster sauce to boost the savory flavor and aroma. You can adjust the amount of oyster sauce based on the saltiness and taste of your kimchi. Soy sauce can be used as an alternative to oyster sauce for a delicious result.
Step 3
Continue to stir-fry, ensuring the rice and kimchi are well combined. It’s important to mix thoroughly so that each grain of rice is coated with the seasoning. Stir-fry until the rice grains are slightly separated and look fluffy. Transfer the delicious stir-fried kimchi rice to a serving bowl.
Step 4
Optionally, top the rice with a fried egg, cooked sunny-side up. Breaking the yolk and mixing it with the rice adds a wonderfully creamy texture. Enjoy your delicious meal with a happy ‘slurp’!
