Ingredients

  • Dried chickpeas 1 cup (approx. 150g)
  • Water 2 cups (for boiling chickpeas)
  • Soy sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Honey 1 Tbsp (or corn syrup, sugar can be used as an alternative)

Cooking Instructions

Let’s start with the first step to making delicious braised chickpeas! Prepare your fresh chickpeas. If using dried chickpeas, it’s important to soak them thoroughly before cooking. (Add further instructions if pre-soaking is required)

Rinse the prepared chickpeas thoroughly. Place the rinsed chickpeas in a pot and add about 2 cups of water, just enough to cover the chickpeas. Cover with a lid and simmer over medium heat for about 20-30 minutes, or until the chickpeas are tender. Check the tenderness occasionally and add a little more water if it seems to be drying out. (Tip: If using canned chickpeas, you can skip this step.)

Drain the cooked chickpeas using a sieve. Now it’s time to add flavor! Return the cooked chickpeas to the pot, and add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce and 1 Tbsp of honey. (If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can adjust the amount of honey or substitute it with corn syrup or sugar.) Reduce the heat to low and slowly simmer, allowing the seasoning to evenly coat the chickpeas. Stir with a spatula to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot.
