Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 blocks (approx. 450g) Firm Tofu for frying
  • Scallions, chopped (for garnish)

Special Soy Glaze

  • 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Oligosaccharide (adjust sweetness to taste)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar (for tanginess)
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Seeds (finely ground)
  • 3-4 Tbsp Olive Oil (for frying tofu)
  • 2 pinches Salt (for seasoning tofu)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 1.5 blocks of firm tofu suitable for frying. Slice the tofu into thick pieces, about 1 cm thick. Line a tray or wide plate with 2-3 layers of paper towels and arrange the sliced tofu on top. Lightly sprinkle 2 pinches of salt over the tofu to season it. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes; this will draw out excess moisture, resulting in firmer and tastier fried tofu.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, get your one-pan or frying pan ready. Add 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil to the pan. Place the tofu slices, patted dry with paper towels, neatly in the pan. **Important Tip:** It’s safer to turn on the heat *after* placing the tofu in the pan. Adding tofu to already hot oil can cause dangerous splattering. Make sure to follow this order.

Step 2

Step 3

Fry the tofu over medium-low heat until each side is golden brown and nicely seared. Once one side is cooked and has turned golden, flip it over and cook the other side in the same way. Continue frying until the exterior of the tofu is delightfully crispy for the best texture.

Step 3

Step 4

Prepare 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds for the sauce. You can use them whole, but for a richer nutty flavor, it’s recommended to finely grind them using a mortar and pestle or a grinder.

Step 4

Step 5

In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of oligosaccharide, and 1.5 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Mix well to create the sauce. This ratio offers a perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors, so feel free to follow it precisely. Once the sauce is mixed, stir in the finely ground sesame seeds prepared in step 3. Your special soy glaze is now ready!

Step 5

Step 6

Arrange the golden-brown pan-fried tofu attractively on a serving plate, overlapping the pieces slightly for a more appealing presentation. Drizzle the prepared soy glaze evenly over the tofu. While delicious on its own, the sweet, sour, and savory soy glaze makes this tofu dish a huge hit, especially with kids! If you like, you can also garnish with chopped scallions or finely chopped chili peppers for an added spicy kick that adults will enjoy.
