Tired of ordinary kimbap? Try making a special rice ball with a unique taste and texture by using tofu! This recipe is so delicious it will truly surprise you. While it’s excellent as curry rice balls without the tofu skin, wrapping it in tofu doubles the deliciousness! It’s a guaranteed hit for kids’ snacks and a satisfying light meal.
Main Ingredients- 16 square sheets of seasoned fried tofu (Inari age)
- 1 sheet of seaweed (gim)
- 1/2 onion
- 1/3 carrot
- 1 tsp tuna extract
Rice Seasoning- 1.5 bowls of cooked rice
- 1 Tbsp curry powder
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/3 tsp salt
- 1.5 bowls of cooked rice

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables for the rice balls. Finely mince 1/2 onion and 1/3 carrot. If you have chives, prepare about 1/5 bunch and mince them together with the other vegetables. Finely chopped vegetables mix better with the rice and provide a pleasant texture.
Step 2
Squeeze out the excess liquid from the square sheets of seasoned fried tofu (standard size) by hand. This helps the tofu absorb flavors better and prevents it from falling apart when stir-frying. To make them easier to roll, trim off the edges of the squeezed tofu sheets with scissors.
Step 3
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat and stir-fry the minced onion until translucent. Once the onion is slightly softened, add the minced carrot and stir-fry together. When the carrot is tender-crisp, pour 1 tsp of tuna extract onto the bottom of the pan and stir-fry everything together over high heat. This adds a wonderful umami flavor.
Step 4
In a large bowl, combine 1.5 bowls of warm cooked rice with the stir-fried onion and carrot mixture. Add 1 Tbsp of curry powder, 1 Tbsp of sesame oil, and 1/3 tsp of salt. Mix well using a spatula or spoon until all ingredients are evenly distributed. It’s important to ensure the curry powder is thoroughly blended into each grain of rice.
Step 5
Finally, add the minced chives to the bowl and gently mix one more time with the rice. The fresh aroma of chives will enhance the overall flavor.
Step 6
Now it’s time to shape the rice balls. If there’s too much rice, it can be difficult to form, so take an appropriate amount and firmly press it into a flat, oval shape with your hands. Avoid packing it too tightly; a slightly softer ball will fit better inside the tofu skin. The key is to shape it so the rice doesn’t easily fall apart.
Step 7
The final step! Place two sheets of tofu skin, layered, onto a piece of seaweed cut into 8 sections. This will provide a sturdy wrap for the rice ball. Place the shaped rice ball on top, then carefully wrap it with the seaweed and tofu. Your delicious Tofu Skin Vegetable Rice Balls are complete!
