  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1-2 cans Spam or luncheon meat (approx. 200g)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1-2 Cheongyang chili peppers (adjust to your spice preference)

Special Sauce

  • 6 Tbsp ketchup (approx. 90ml)
  • 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste) (approx. 15ml)
  • 0.5 Tbsp oligosaccharide or corn syrup (approx. 7.5ml)
  • Pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the onion. Peel it, wash thoroughly under running water, and then cut it into cubes about 0.8cm to 1cm thick. The key is to cut them relatively large to maintain a nice, crisp texture!

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the ham (Spam or luncheon meat) into bite-sized pieces. You can cube them similarly to the onion or cut them into strips, as you prefer. Heat about 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cubed onion and stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until it becomes translucent.

Step 2

Step 3

Now it’s time to add the special sauce and stir-fry everything together. Once the onion is slightly translucent, add 6 tablespoons of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of gochujang, and 0.5 tablespoon of oligosaccharide to the pan. Add the ham as well and stir-fry together for 1-2 minutes, ensuring the ingredients and sauce are well combined. Keep the heat at medium-low to prevent burning.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the Cheongyang chili peppers to introduce a spicy kick. You can mince them finely or chop them into small pieces after removing the seeds. Adjust the amount according to your preference. Sprinkle in some black pepper and stir-fry for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until all the ingredients are nicely blended.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, turn off the heat and sprinkle with sesame seeds for a delicious ham and vegetable stir-fry! Isn’t it simple? Because it’s not overcooked, the onion retains its sweetness and crispiness, and the savory ham paired with the sweet and spicy sauce creates a fantastic combination. Serve it over warm rice as a donburi, or enjoy it with a cold beer for an even more delightful experience.
