Nostalgic Salad Bread, Perfect for Your Child’s Breakfast
Easy and Delicious Homemade Nostalgic Salad Bread Recipe
Made with love for my daughter who prefers bread over rice for breakfast! This salad bread is filled with flavor and cherished memories, making it a perfect option for breakfast or a delightful snack.
Bread and Vegetables- 6 soft Morning Buns
- 1/4 head of fresh Cabbage
- 1/2 crisp Cucumber
- 1/4 sweet Carrot
Vegetable Brining Seasoning- 3 Tbsp Sugar
- 3 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Salt
- 3 Tbsp Sugar
- 3 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables that will be the filling for the bread: cabbage, carrot, and cucumber. Julienne them as thinly as possible for the best texture. Using a mandoline slicer can help you achieve thin, uniform cuts much faster than a knife.
Step 2
Place the julienned vegetables in a large bowl. Add 3 tablespoons of sugar, 3 tablespoons of vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of salt. Mix well to coat the vegetables. Let them sit for about 30 minutes to allow the vegetables to soften and release their moisture.
Step 3
After 30 minutes, you’ll see the liquid released from the vegetables. Squeeze this moisture out by hand as much as possible. For an even drier filling, you can wrap the vegetables in cheesecloth or paper towels and squeeze again. This step is crucial to prevent the salad from becoming watery.
Step 4
Transfer the squeezed vegetables back into a clean bowl. They should now have a crisp texture.
Step 5
Now it’s time to add flavor to the vegetables. Stir in 5 tablespoons of mayonnaise and 1 teaspoon of wasabi. Mix gently to ensure everything is evenly coated, without clumping. Start with 1 teaspoon of wasabi and taste; add more if you prefer a stronger kick. You can also adjust the amount of mayonnaise to achieve your desired creaminess.
Step 6
Finally, take your soft Morning Buns and slice them in half horizontally. Generously fill the pocket with the prepared salad mixture. Drizzle a little ketchup on top as desired. Your delicious, nostalgic salad bread is now ready! It’s a fantastic breakfast option for kids.
