Ingredients- 1 serving pasta (approx. 100g)
- 3 Tbsp perilla pesto
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 5 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1 cup milk (approx. 200ml)
- Olive oil, as needed
- 1 tsp pine nuts (for garnish, optional)
- Parmesan cheese, as needed (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, fill a pot with plenty of water for boiling the pasta, add a pinch of salt, and bring to a boil. While the water heats up, thinly slice the onion and garlic for the sauce. Prepare the perilla pesto in advance for convenience.
Step 2
✨[Quick Perilla Pesto Recipe]✨ In a blender or food processor, combine 15-20 fresh perilla leaves, 1.5 tsp minced garlic, 3 Tbsp pine nuts, 7 Tbsp olive oil, 3 Tbsp Parmesan cheese, and 1 coffee spoon of salt. Blend until smooth to create your fragrant perilla pesto!
Step 3
🍳[The Golden Ratio for Perilla Cream Sauce]🍳 Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the sliced garlic until fragrant. Then, add the sliced onion and stir-fry until translucent. For an even richer flavor, you can also add mushrooms like king oyster or lotus root at this stage and stir-fry together.
Step 4
Once the vegetables are well sautéed, pour in 1 cup (approx. 200ml) of milk and simmer over medium-low heat. As the sauce begins to simmer, reduce the heat slightly and let it thicken gently.
Step 5
Now, add 2 tablespoons of the prepared perilla pesto and gently stir it into the sauce over low heat. Let it simmer for a bit longer to allow the fresh aroma and flavor of the perilla leaves to infuse deeply into the sauce.
Step 6
Meanwhile, add the pasta to the boiling water and cook for 1-2 minutes less than the time indicated on the package (usually around 5-6 minutes). Reserve a little of the pasta water; it can be useful later for adjusting the sauce’s consistency.
Step 7
Drain the cooked pasta and add it directly to the pan with the perilla cream sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce, stir-frying for about 1-2 minutes. If the sauce becomes too thick, gradually add some of the reserved pasta water to achieve a smoother consistency.
Step 8
🍽️[Delicious Plating]🍽️ Transfer the finished perilla cream pasta to a beautiful plate. For an extra touch, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and garnish with toasted pine nuts for an even more appealing dish. Enjoy your fragrant and creamy perilla leaf pasta!
