Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This is the first step to prepare the ingredients needed to make the spicy Dakgalbi iron plate fried rice using SamPyo ChiBapChiTteok sauce.
Step 2
Introducing the star of this recipe: the SamPyo ChiBapChiTteok sauce! It’s available for 2,030 won per packet at SamPyo Market. The vibrant red packaging alone is enough to whet your appetite.
Step 3
Each packet (110g) serves 1-2 people. Stir-frying it with rice creates delicious ChiBap (chicken rice), and with tteok, you get chewy ChiTteok (chicken tteok). You can enjoy your own personalized BBQ party experience with this versatile sauce, known for its addictive spicy flavor!
Step 4
The back of the package provides simple cooking instructions. You only need chicken thigh meat, rice, and tteok! For storage, keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. However, once opened, it must be refrigerated and consumed promptly.
Step 5
Now, let’s start making the spicy Dakgalbi iron plate fried rice. First, prepare 500g of chicken thigh meat.
Step 6
Rinse the chicken thigh meat thoroughly under cold running water about three times to remove any impurities.
Step 7
Wash the whole garlic cloves you’ll be using under cold water as well.
Step 8
Slice the whole garlic cloves thinly into pieces for easier cooking. If you prefer the crunchy texture of whole garlic, you can leave them un-sliced.
Step 9
Generously prepare the Joraengi tteok that has been frozen.
Step 10
Lightly rinse the Joraengi tteok once under cold running water to remove any surface dust.
Step 11
For a more authentic iron plate fried rice experience, we’ll use an electric grill pan. Lightly coat the pan with canola oil and preheat it.
Step 12
Turn the gas stove to medium heat. Once the pan is hot, carefully place the chicken thigh pieces in a single layer.
Step 13
Flip the chicken thigh pieces and cook them until they are completely done on all sides.
Step 14
Once the chicken thigh meat is partially cooked, cut it into bite-sized pieces. This will help the sauce penetrate evenly, making it more flavorful.
Step 15
It’s important to ensure the chicken is cooked all the way through. Grill it until it’s nicely browned and slightly crispy for enhanced flavor.
Step 16
When the chicken is cooked, add all the sliced garlic and stir-fry them together. This will add a fragrant garlic aroma.
Step 17
Next, add the chewy Joraengi tteok and stir-fry until the tteok becomes soft and pliable.
Step 18
Maintain medium heat and stir-fry the chicken, garlic, and tteok evenly. You can already smell the deliciousness building up!
Step 19
Once the sliced garlic and Joraengi tteok are somewhat cooked and combined, add both bowls of cooked white rice.
Step 20
Then, pour in the entire packet of SamPyo ChiBapChiTteok sauce. As soon as the sauce is added, a strong spicy aroma fills the air, stimulating your appetite.
Step 21
Using a spatula, stir-fry the sauce, rice, and other ingredients until everything is well combined and evenly coated. Ensure every grain of rice is coated with the sauce.
Step 22
On top of the well-stir-fried rice, artfully arrange the two slices of cheddar cheese, cut into triangles. At this point, reduce the heat to low. This is to ensure the cheese melts beautifully without burning.
Step 23
Cover the iron plate fried rice with a lid and let it sit for about 5 minutes. This allows the cheddar cheese to melt smoothly into the hot rice.
Step 24
Once the cheese has melted to a beautiful golden color, it’s time for the final touches. Sprinkle the crumbled seasoned seaweed evenly over the fried rice. Separately, add a little canola oil to a pan and make a sunny-side-up fried egg.
Step 25
A sunny-side-up egg is especially wonderful when you break the yolk and mix it with the fried rice for an incredible taste. You can also cook it to your preference, like over-easy or well-done.
Step 26
Voila! The spicy Dakgalbi iron plate fried rice made with SamPyo ChiBapChiTteok sauce is complete. This dish pairs wonderfully with beer or soju. (A cute mini soju bottle is featured in the photo for presentation.)
Step 27
It truly lives up to its name with an addictively delicious spicy flavor! If the fried rice feels too spicy, breaking the yolk of the sunny-side-up egg and mixing it in will help neutralize the heat, making it even more enjoyable. The combination of savory cheddar cheese and salty seaweed is excellent, and thanks to the SamPyo sauce, it pairs wonderfully with any ingredient.
Step 28
Here’s a close-up shot of the tempting iron plate fried rice! My mouth is already watering just thinking about it. I’ll definitely make this again the next time I crave spicy and delicious iron plate fried rice.
