Elegant Cob Salad: Perfect for Housewarming Parties
How to Make a Cob Salad That Impresses for Your Housewarming Party
When preparing for a housewarming party, I pondered over a menu that would be both visually appealing and impressive. That’s when I decided to make Cob Salad. You can create a Cob Salad at home with the taste and presentation worthy of a brunch cafe. It’s a colorful and satisfying dish that’s perfect for entertaining guests.
Cob Salad Ingredients- 1/4 head of crisp lettuce (torn or chopped into bite-sized pieces)
- 7-10 cherry tomatoes (halved)
- 1/2 bell pepper (any color, thinly sliced)
- 7-10 black olives (pitted, halved or quartered)
- 1/2 cup corn kernels (drained)
- 2 hard-boiled eggs
- 3-4 drops of vinegar (for tomatoes)
Ranch Dressing- 2 Tbsp plain yogurt
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 2 Tbsp plain yogurt
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp honey
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Boil the eggs to perfection: Place the eggs in a pot of boiling water and cook for 10 minutes. Immediately transfer the cooked eggs to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Once cooled, carefully peel the shells. For neat presentation, use an egg slicer or a sharp knife to cut the eggs into uniform, even slices.
Step 2
Wash all your fresh vegetables thoroughly. Gently separate the lettuce leaves and rinse them under cool running water. Pat them dry with a paper towel or use a salad spinner. Rinse the cherry tomatoes, and remove any stems. Halve the bell pepper, remove the seeds and membrane, and give it a good rinse.
Step 3
Chop all vegetables into uniform, bite-sized pieces. Tear the lettuce leaves or chop them into roughly 1-inch pieces. Halve the cherry tomatoes. Thinly slice the bell pepper into strips about 1/4-inch thick. Consistency in size makes for a more pleasant eating experience.
Step 4
Prepare the toppings for extra flavor and texture. Drain the black olives well and then halve or quarter them. Ensure the corn kernels are thoroughly drained by placing them in a sieve; this prevents the salad from becoming watery. These prepared toppings will add a wonderful dimension to your salad.
Step 5
Arrange the ingredients artfully on a platter. Choose a large, shallow bowl or plate. Start by arranging a neat row of the prepared lettuce. Then, line up the other ingredients – bell peppers, tomatoes, olives, corn, and eggs – in distinct, colorful rows across the bowl. This organized arrangement is the signature look of a Cob Salad.
Step 6
Whip up the simple and delicious Ranch Dressing. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Whisk together until smooth and well combined. This creamy dressing is the perfect complement to the fresh ingredients. Drizzle generously over the salad just before serving.
